Zeeland: Tranquility, Space, and Adventure
Explore the beauty of Zeeland from Noord-Beveland, a tranquil island just one meter above sea level. This charming area offers plenty of opportunities for nature walks, cycling trips, and water sports. The dikes and unique "inlets" – natural areas between the dikes – make the landscape unique. Discover the cozy villages and enjoy the peace and space of the island.
The Veerse Meer, which separates Noord- and Zuid-Beveland, is the perfect spot for water sports. Hop on a boat or try water skiing and wakeboarding. Twelve islands in the lake are accessible to visitors, where you can picnic and enjoy the natural surroundings. The fortified town of Veere, located by the Veerse Meer, is a charming stop full of history. Zuid-Beveland is a region known for its characteristic orchards, flower dikes, and picturesque villages. The Zak van Zuid-Beveland, located between the Oosterschelde and the Westerschelde, is ideal for cyclists and hikers. In Zuid-Beveland, you'll also find the historic town of Goes with its vibrant center, and the fishing village of Yerseke, known for its oysters and mussels. Here you can enjoy the best of Zeeland's cuisine and even visit an oyster auction.
On Walcheren, the most populous Zeeland peninsula, you'll find broad sandy beaches and dunes, which are perfect for walks and bike rides. Zoutelande, also known as the Zeeland Riviera, has beaches that are unique due to their southern exposure. Other popular beaches, such as Dishoek, Breezand, and Badstrand in Domburg, offer sun, sea, and relaxation. Walcheren is also rich in historic towns like Middelburg, Vlissingen, Veere, and Domburg. Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland, boasts impressive monuments, charming shopping streets, and cozy squares. Vlissingen offers a lively boulevard with views of passing ships, and Veere is a rustic town where history can still be seen in the old harbor.
Zeeland has something for everyone: tranquility and nature, cozy villages, and rich culture. Whether you choose a day at the beach, an active cycling trip through the polders, or a visit to historic towns – Zeeland offers the perfect mix for a relaxing and varied holiday.
